Cool Sh*t I've Done: 2016 Melbourne Fashion Festival
Reflecting back - my work on the 2016 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is still some of the work I am most proud of.
In 2015, I moved to Melbourne to broaden my experience and make a first foray into the international events scene. Five years earlier, when I pivoted from youth and community development work into events, getting into big public festivals was (and still is) my end goal. Having attended Melbourne Fashion Festival events on past visits to the city, it was high on my target list of dream places to work. So, when the opportunity arose to take a contract as a project manager / producer for two of the shows - I leapt at it.
Being responsible for these two shows was no mean feat. I was basically the central point which coordinated the myriad of moving parts. Lighting, AV, staging, venue, music, styling / wardrobe / hair and make up, model casting, front-of-house all fell under my purview - and it was my job to make sure these all thematically and stylistically tied together. I had a large cast of specialists - from stylists to stage managers - to keep working together.
But, at the end of the day, it all came together and my vision for the events was delivered flawlessly. Although I left Melbourne before I had the chance to do this project again, my love for high-end productions was cemented. and it will forever remain a work and life experience that I am extremely proud of.
